This was the winning illustration! My third for this publication. It was created from an original image of a basic store-bought tomato, which was photographed on my kitchen table using natural light, and then heavily textured and stylized in Photoshop. The image was then assembled in Strata Design 3D CX where the molecules and glass cubes were added.
This was my first accepted illustration for Nature Nanotechnology! No easy task considering the high profile of this publication and the competitive nature of the selection process. My first exposure to a world audience. A variation of this image was entered into the Wellcome International Image Contest and awarded a top 20 finish.
